Vinesh said that she was completely depressed after missing out on medals in two consecutive Olympics and had thought that she would now retire from the sport.

He said he had almost made up his mind to quit wrestling after missing out on a medal for the second time in a row at the Tokyo Olympics, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s talks inspired him to continue in the sport. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, her medal hopes were shattered by a knee injury in the quarterfinals, but she crashed out in the last eight stage in Tokyo after finishing as the world number wrestler in her weight category.

Vinesh admitted that these two disappointments had pushed her to the brink of quitting wrestling, but she made a comeback to win the gold medal at the recently concluded Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The star wrestler said, ‘Sure, you can say (Vinesh 2.0 reloaded). I have been able to cross a huge ‘barrier’ mentally. I almost gave up wrestling because I could not win a medal in two Olympics. Olympics is a big stage for any sportsperson. But my family always supported me, they always believed in my ability.
