Experience playing on Australian pitches
Apart from Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur were also contenders to replace the injured Jasprit Bumrah in the T20 World Cup, but Shami went ahead of these two. The biggest reason behind this is his experience of playing in Australia. Shami is well aware of the pitch here and where it gets bounced. In such a situation, he can become an effective weapon for Team India in this tournament.
Shami has played a total of 14 ODIs on Australian soil, in which he has bowled 112.5 overs and has taken 22 wickets. How can one forget the 2015 World Cup in which he took 17 wickets in 7 matches. Apart from ODIs, he has also bowled a lot here in Tests. In Test matches, Shami has bowled 280 overs in which he has taken 31 wickets. In such a situation, due to his experience of playing on Australian soil, he has got a place in the T20 World Cup.
Strong performance in IPL
Mohammed Shami may not have been involved in BCCI’s future plans in the T20 format, but in the Indian Premier League, the bowler has been playing consistently. Shami’s IPL 2022 season was also great. He took 20 wickets in 16 matches for his team. This is the reason why his team Gujarat Titans became the champion. Apart from this, Shami took 19 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2021.
golden hand bowler
Mohammed Shami has been a golden hand bowler for Team India. It has often been seen that in the presence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah in the team, the batsmen of the opposing team consider them less lethal and intensify their efforts to score runs on them, but in the meantime, Shami gives wickets to the team with his excellent bowling. He did the same thing in the 2019 World Cup as well. Here also Shami got as much opportunity as he bowled well.
Shami is deadly with the new ball
Mohammed Shami is known to be a shrewd bowler and knows very well how to use the new ball. There is no one answer to the way Shami bowls in the wrist and seam positions. On the other hand, if the pitch proves to be helpful, then they break as havoc on the batsmen. In such a situation, the inclusion of Shami on the Australian pitch can prove to be a wise decision of the Indian camp.
T20 World Cup was also effective in 2021
When there was talk about the replacement of Bumrah in the name of Mohammed Shami, the argument was being made that he should not be included in the team because he has not played a single T20 match for the last one year. This is true also. Shami last played in T20 for Team India in T20 World Cup 2021, in which he faced a crushing defeat against Pakistan. Shami was very impressed in this World Cup as well but the shadow of Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had faded away.
