Geelong: In the ICC T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka has included Binura Fernando in place of the injured Dilshan Madhushanka. “The Competition Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has approved the inclusion of Binura Fernando in the Sri Lankan squad in place of injured fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement. Madhushanka had a muscle strain due to which he had to be dropped from the team. He was replaced in Sri Lanka by Binura Fernando, who has played nine T20 Internationals so far.

Fernando will travel from Sri Lanka to join the team in Australia. Substituting any player requires the approval of the competition’s technical committee.

Lost to Sri Lanka in the first match of the tournament

The Sri Lankan team has had a disappointing start in the first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Asian champions Sri Lanka suffered a massive 55-run defeat at the hands of Namibia in their opening match. Sri Lankan team won the toss and decided to bowl first in the match.

In the match, Namibia’s team scored 167 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 due to the strong batting of Jane Frylink. In addition to Frylink for Namibia, Stephen Bard scored 26 while Lofty-Eaton and captain Gerhard Erasmus also scored 20 runs each.

Chasing the target of 168 runs given by Namibia, the Sri Lankan team got off to a bad start. The team lost its wickets at frequent intervals. Due to this, she was reduced to 108 runs in 19 overs. Captain Dasun Shanaka played the most innings for the team with 29 runs. Apart from this, Bhanuka Rajapaksa also contributed 20 runs.

In the bowling, David Wiese, Bernard Scholtz, Ben Chicago and Jane Frylink took two wickets each for Namibia. Apart from this, JJ Smit got a success.
