T20 WC 2022: Team India’s concern may increase, this ‘dreaded’ bowler of Pakistan is ready to return

Karachi: Before the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in Australia, a good news is coming for the Pakistan cricket team. Team’s star fast bowler Shaheen Afridi will take part in two warm-up matches to prove his fitness. Shaheen Afridi suffered a knee injury during the Sri Lanka tour. Due to this he could not even play in the Asia Cup. In such a situation, after surgery and rehab, he has once again started preparing to return to the field. If Afridi is fully fit, then nothing can be better for the Pakistani team as he is the main strike bowler for his team.

The first encounter of the Pakistani team in the T20 World Cup will be with India on 23 October. In the World Cup played in the UAE last year, Shaheen Afridi had wreaked havoc on the top order batsmen of the Indian team. In such a situation, with his return, Team India may need to change its strategy.

The left-arm fast bowler of Pakistan will take part in the practice match to be held on October 17 and 19. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Afridi, who sustained a knee injury in mid-July, will join the team in Brisbane on Saturday after undergoing medical rehabilitation in the UK. His match fitness will be tested in the practice matches against England and Afghanistan.

“Shaheen is now available for selection in the practice matches against England and Afghanistan on October 17 and 19 during which the team management will assess his match fitness,” the PCB said. Shaheen has been away from cricket since mid-July when he injured his knee during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Afridi said in a statement that he has been bowling six to eight overs with full run-up and pace for the last 10 days and is not facing any problem.

“I have enjoyed bowling and batting in the nets but nothing can replace the atmosphere of the match and I can’t wait for that atmosphere,” he said. The PCB said that aggressive opener Fakhar Zaman, who is among the three reserve players for the T20 World Cup, will also travel to Brisbane along with Afridi and National High Performance Centre’s coach Umar Rashid.

Zaman will complete his rehabilitation under the supervision of PCB’s Chief Medical Officer and team doctor Najibullah Soumro, after which a decision on his involvement will be taken if needed.
