Sudan: Violent clashes broke out between Berti and Hausa tribes, death toll rises to 65

The death toll in a violent clash between two tribes in Sudan’s southeastern Blue Nile state has risen to 65. Apart from this, 192 people are injured, while 120 families were displaced. State Health Minister Jamal Nasser Elsayed gave this information.

The minister said most of the victims were youths who were either shot or stabbed. The Security and Defense Council of Sudan in Khartoum held an emergency meeting to discuss the security situation in the Blue Nile state. The council said in a statement on Sunday. The Council directed the Attorney General to form a fact-finding committee and called on the State Security Committee to take necessary legal measures against those inciting sedition and violence.

The council also decided to strengthen the security forces in the area and deal firmly with all cases of disorder and attacks on individuals and private and public property.

Significantly, on Friday there were violent clashes between the Berti and Hausa tribes. It used firearms and white weapons. The Blue Nile State is located in eastern Sudan on the border with Ethiopia. The state houses the Rogiers Dam, which forms the largest electricity-generating reservoir in Sudan on the Blue Nile River descending from the Ethiopian plateau.
