Somebody stoned my house… What was on Ashwin’s mind while batting against Pakistan?

Melbourne: India defeated Pakistan by 4 wickets in their first match of the T20 World Cup 2022. Virat Kohli was the hero of India’s victory in the match. But Ravichandran Ashwin (R Ashwin) was not on strike on the last ball. Ravichandran Ashwin came to the crease after Dinesh Karthik was stumped on the 5th ball of the 20th over. Team needed two runs to win off one ball. But Pak bowler Mohammad Nawaz threw a wide. Now Ashwin has given his reaction on this.

What was the thinking after wide

Ravichandran Ashwin has told what was going through his mind after Nawaz’s delivery was wide. Ashwin said, ‘The first ball he bowled from the leg side. I was relieved. I said to myself ‘Thank God, it was wide. I didn’t even need to play it. I just kept watching the ball being taken to the wicketkeeper and released it.

Talking on this, Ashwin further said- I was relieved that we got the run and now one run was needed off a ball to win. I told myself thankfully no one will throw stones at my house.’

Next ball is played over mid off

After wide, India needed one run to win off the last ball. Mohammad Nawaz bowled an over pitched ball on the leg stump. Ashwin plays it over mid-off and runs away to easily complete a run. The Indian team won by one run and the account was also opened in the T20 World Cup 2022.

Got a chance before Chahal

By the way, Yuzvendra Chahal is the main spinner of India in T20. But in the match against Pakistan, the Indian team gave Ravichandran Ashwin a chance. The big reason for this was to be a left-handed batsman in Pakistan’s mid-order. Ashwin gave 23 runs in 3 overs but he did not get success. But in batting, he won the team by playing a match winning shot.
