Raksha Bandhan Worldwide Collection: Akshay’s shine faded abroad too, earning ‘Raksha Bandhan’ in lakhs

After the flop of the previous films, Akshay Kumar has returned to the silver screen with the film ‘Raksha Bandhan’. Directed by Aanand L Rai, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ had high expectations not only from the actor but also his fans. The film starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar was released on the day of Raksha Bandhan, the popular festival of brother-sister love. The film was expected to give a bang as it released on the festival day. But once again Akshay’s film failed to work its magic in the theatres and ‘Raksha Bandhan’ made a modest debut at the box office.

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Raksha Bandhan’ hit the theaters on Thursday, August 11. Akshay’s film released alongside Aamir Khan starrer ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’. Despite being one of the biggest clashes of the year, critics were confident that Akshay Kumar’s film, which showcases the love-filled brother-sister relationship, would do well at the box office. But ‘Raksha Bandhan’ could not show anything special. After earning Rs 9 crore on its opening day in India, the film saw a drop in business on the second day. It was a matter of the country but, along with India, Akshay has failed to show his strength abroad as well.

In the US, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ earned Rs 1.12 crore in three days, but in all other countries, Akshay’s film earned in lakhs. While ‘Raksha Bandhan’ did a total business of Rs 50.97 lakh in the UK, the film earned less than Rs 40.03 crore in Canada. Interestingly, even after three days in Australia and New Zealand, the business of Akshay’s film has been reduced to millions. While Australia earned Rs 31.89 lakh, Raksha Bandhan has done the least business in the overseas markets so far in New Zealand. Akshay’s film earned only Rs 18.47 lakh in three days in New Zealand.
