No quota for meritorious candidates
He said that the state government’s decision to provide 20 per cent quota for service officers was not right for meritorious candidates. Grover said that the Maharashtra government has not collected any data for providing 20 per cent reservation. This is evident from the fact that out of 1,416 seats for PG, 286 seats were available for in-service quota, but only 69 candidates appeared for NEET PG.
State government’s counsel
Advocate Siddharth Abhay Dharmadhikari, appearing for Maharashtra, refuted this argument and said that there has been no change in the rules of admission. Dharmadhikari said the reservation for serving candidates was restored after the Constitution Bench’s decision. The top court was hearing a petition filed by some candidates against a decision of the High Court, which had refused to grant them relief.
