NSE Phone Tapping Case: No relief to former Mumbai Police chief, Court said – allegations are serious, cannot grant bail

Former Mumbai Police chief Sanjay Pandey has received a major setback from the court. The court has rejected his bail application. It is being told that the court has refused to grant bail to the former Mumbai Police chief arrested in the illegal phone tapping of National Stock Exchange (NSE) employees.

The ED had arrested him in a money laundering case. Disagreeing with the arguments of the counsel for the accused, Special Judge Sunena Sharma at Patiala House said that the investigation in the matter is on. There are serious allegations against him. Therefore, there is no basis for bail.

Earlier, the court had sent Sanjay to judicial custody till August 16 on Tuesday. It is alleged that illegal tapping of MTNL phone was contrary to Telegraph Act. 4.54 crore was paid for this purpose, which is the proceeds of the offence.
