IND vs ZIM: Rahul Dravid will not go on Zimbabwe tour, this legend gets the responsibility of head coach

New Delhi: National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman will be the acting head coach of India (IND vs ZIM) for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. The three-match series will start from August 18. There is very little time between this series and the Asia Cup to be played in UAE from 27 August. The last match of the series will be played on 22 August. The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah gave information about giving Laxman the responsibility of the post of coach.

Jay Shah said, “Yes, Laxman will take up the responsibility (coach) of the team for the three-match ODI series to be played on the Zimbabwe tour. Not that Rahul Dravid is being rested. The ODI series in Zimbabwe will conclude on August 22 and the Indian team along with Dravid will leave for the UAE on August 23. There is very little time between these two tournaments, so Laxman will take up the responsibility of the Indian team in Zimbabwe. He said, “Only Lokesh Rahul and Deepak Hooda from the Asia Cup T20 tournament squad are in the ODI squad for the Zimbabwe tour. So it is logical that the head coach will be with the T20 team.

Zimbabwe will play three ODIs in Harare on August 18, 20 and 22. Shah also informed that KL Rahul and Hooda will fly from Harare to Dubai. It has been a tradition in the BCCI that when the main team is on a tour, the second tier or A teams are always supervised by the head of the NCA. Laxman also played the role of head coach of the Indian team in the T20 series against Ireland.
