Indian team opener Shubman Gill played a brilliant innings in the first two matches of the three-match ODI series against West Indies, where he scored 64 runs in the first ODI while Gill scored 43 runs in the second match. It was being told from the ODI series against West Indies that Ishan Kishan or Ruturaj Gaikwad would open with Shikhar Dhawan, but the team management surprised everyone and expressed their trust in Shubman Gill.

Before the third ODI, NBT asked him some questions regarding opening in limited overs, in response to which he said, ‘I am feeling very confident about my batting. We couldn’t practice much after the Test series in England as both our practice sessions were over here, but once I batted in the ODIs, I was feeling confident with the way I was playing .’

He said, ‘Two innings of ODIs were my confidence booster. West Indies are a good team and we contributed to the team in two matches. One while batting first and the other while chasing runs. These innings have helped me boost my confidence, I hope to do better in the third match.

Gill further said, ‘I started the innings with Dhawan, which gave us hope to do better. Maybe in the third match also I will get a chance to play as the opening batsman with the captain. I started well in the last matches and kept going but unfortunately I could not convert it into 100, due to which I was angry with myself how I got out.

Gill admitted that achieving 300-plus scores in both innings at the Queen’s Park Oval has helped him deliver his best with the bat. Gill also spoke about how head coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour are helping him improve during the practice sessions. I keep having conversations about my batting with both the coaches.
