ICC FTP: IPL will run for two and a half months, PSL is also going to benefit!

New Delhi: In IPL 2022, the number of teams was increased from 8 to 10. Till last year, the league used to have 60 matches. This year the matches were also 74. However, not all teams played a couple of matches against each other. BCCI wants to take the number of matches to 94. The board also seems to be getting the support of the ICC for this. The ICC is about to release the Future Tour Program (FTP) of international matches of 12 former member countries from May 2023 to April 2027.

IPL’s two-and-a-half month window
BCCI will be given a window of two and a half months from the ICC to organize the IPL. Every year from the last week of March to the first week of June. There will be very few international matches during this period. This has come to the fore in the ESPN Cricinfo report. The ICC annual meeting is scheduled to be held on 25 and 26 July in Birmingham, England. Therein, the official announcement of FTP will be made.

MS Dhoni: Mahendra Singh Dhoni had to take a heavy toll on the streets of London, the security personnel had to take support
At the time of the sale of its media rights for the next five years in June, the BCCI had announced 74 matches in 2023 and 2024, 84 matches in 2025 and 2026 and 94 in the 2027 season.

Only BCCI is not going to get window for IPL. Australia and England will also get a window for their league. International matches will not stop during these two tournaments like IPL. In July-August, the English player will get a window of three weeks, so that he will be able to play in The Hundred. In the first season of the league, players like Ben Stokes and Joe Root were able to play only a few matches.

On the other hand, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley had said that he would try that the team does not have to play any ODI or T20 match in January. That would make the major players available to Big-Bash.

Complicated situation for PSL
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) of Pakistan has also been included in the FTP. Things are complicated for Pakistan as the PCB does not want the league to clash with Ramzan. Ramadan starts 10 days earlier every year. Due to which he may have trouble in 2024-25. He will have to play the home series against England. This will be followed by tours of Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and New Zealand, which will run till February. He has to play a tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa at home. Then the Champions Trophy will begin, which will run till March 9. By that time Ramadan would have started. If the league starts after that, then its matches can clash with the IPL.
