Gururaja Poojary News: India has got the second medal in weightlifting after Sanket Sargar in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Gururaja Pujari has won the bronze medal for the country in the men’s 61 kg weight category. Pujari lifted 118 kg in snatch and 151 kg in clean and jerk. Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Gururaja finished third with a total weight of 269 kg (118 kg + 151 kg).

Ajnil bin Bidin Muhammad of Malaysia created a record in the Games by lifting a weight of 285 kg (127 + 158) and won the gold medal. Moria Baru of Papua New Guinea won the silver medal with a total weight of 273 kg (121 + 152).

Gururaja lifted 115 kg in the first attempt in the snatch, while lifting 118 kg in the second attempt. He failed in the third attempt. At the same time, he picked up 140, 148 and 151 on the first try. In this way he stood at number three with a weight of 269 kg.

Earlier, Sargar from Maharashtra’s Sangli district was on his way to gold but missed out on a kilo after two failed attempts in clean and jerk. He won the silver medal by lifting 248 kg (113 and 135 kg). Malaysia’s Mohamed Aneek lifted a total of 249 kg to win the gold medal in clean and jerk by creating a new Games record. He lifted 107 kg in snatch and 142 kg in clean and jerk. Dilanka Isuru Kumara of Sri Lanka won the bronze medal by lifting 225 kg.
