FTA: India and Britain working on completing FTA by Diwali

India and Britain are working to complete the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by Diwali. After the fifth round of talks, Britain’s Department of International Trade (DIT) said in a joint statement that 15 policy issues have been discussed in 85 sessions. Another round of talks is due later this month in the UK.

According to the DIT, the officials of both the countries will complete a comprehensive and balanced FTA negotiations and prepare the draft by the end of October 2022. Earlier, India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal had said at the Entrepreneurs’ Conference held in Delhi that talks for FTA between India and the UK are progressing at a fast pace.

Bilateral trade to double by 2030
According to the report of Grant Thornton and CII, bilateral trade between India and Britain is likely to double from current levels by 2030. The UK Meets India (BMI) Report 2022 by Grant Thornton in partnership with DIT and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) states that companies from both countries are supporting each other’s economy.
