The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has asked e-commerce entities to sell Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani medicines only on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner or legal practitioner.
It includes drugs which are included in the ingredients listed in Schedule E(1) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.
It includes medicines made from substances such as cannabis, charas, opium under Ayurvedic (including Siddha) and Unani systems of medicine. In which most of the pain relievers, energizing and medicines of incurable diseases are included.
Therefore, the e-commerce platform has been advised that the sale of such medicines can be done only after a valid prescription from a registered Ayurveda, Siddha or Unani doctor. Use of these medicines without a doctor’s advice can lead to serious health complications.
That is why the CCPA has issued this advisory. Along with this, instructions or cautions have been asked to be written in Hindi and English on the packet of medicine.
