Birmingham: The sixth day of the Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022) was amazing for India. Medals were received for the first time in the history of the Games in two events. In squash, Saurav Ghoshal became the first Indian to win a medal in an individual event. Along with this, India also got a medal in the Commonwealth Games for the first time in the high jump. Indian women’s team has reached the semi-finals in cricket. In their last group match, the team achieved a massive 100-run victory over Barbados. Apart from this, Olympic medalist Lovlina disappointed and could not make it to the semi-finals.

India’s medalists on day six:
Athletics: Tejaswin Shankar won the bronze in the high jump with a jump of 2.22m.
Weightlifting: Lovepreet Singh won the bronze medal in the men’s 109kg category by lifting a total of 355kg and Gurdeep Singh in the men’s 109+kg lifting a total of 394kg.
Judo: Tulika Mann won the silver medal after losing the women’s +78kg final.
Squash: Saurav Ghosal won the bronze medal with an 11-6, 11-1, 11-4 win over James Willstrop.

Boxing: Mohammad Husamuddin, Neetu Ghanghas and Nikhat Zareen have confirmed their place in the semi-finals of Boxing.

Bronze to Lovepreet and Gurdeep in weightlifting

In 109 kg category Lovepreet Singh and in 109+ Gurdeep Singh won bronze medal. After a stellar performance in the snatch round, Lovepreet Singh also did well in the clean and jerk. In the 109kg category, he was at the top at one point of time, but had to settle for the third place. He lifted a total of 355 kg. On the other hand, Gurdeep lifted his best weight of 167 kg in three attempts in the snatch round. After this he lifted the weight of 223 kg in the clean and jerk round. In this way, with a total lifting of 390 kg, Gurdeep won the bronze medal.

Bronze to Tejaswin Shankar in High Jump
Tejaswin Shankar won the medal for the country with the highest jump of 2.22 metres. This is India’s first medal in track and field at this Games. At the same time, this is India’s first medal in the history of Commonwealth Games in high jump. He was not included in the Indian contingent for the first Games. With the help of the Delhi High Court, he got an opportunity to go to Birmingham.

Tulika Mann gets silver in Judo
Indian judo player Tulika Mann had to be content with a silver medal after she lost to Scotland’s Sarah Adlington in the women’s 78kg category final. Paintbrush, who had made it to the finals after winning two matches on Wednesday, was leading for most of the final but Adlington then won the gold with an ‘epone’. Adlington slammed the paintbrush with a lot of force, causing the Indian to fall on the back and the match ended 30 seconds ahead of schedule.

Bronze to Saurav Ghoshal
India’s Saurav Ghosal won the bronze medal in the men’s singles squash bronze medal match by defeating James Willstrop of England 3-0 in straight games in a one-sided match. World No. 15 Ghosal registered an easy 11-6, 11-1, 11-4 win over the world No. 24 player from the host country. This is India’s first medal in the squash singles event at the Commonwealth Games. This is Ghosal’s second medal at the Commonwealth Games. She won the mixed doubles silver medal in 2018 along with Dipika Pallikal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Women’s hockey team in semi-finals, men also won

Indian women’s hockey team has reached the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games. The team qualified for the semi-finals by defeating Canada 3–2 in Pool A’s do or die match. India looked in a good position to take a 2-0 lead against the world No. 15 team till the 22nd minute thanks to goals from Salima Tete (3rd minute) and Navneet Kaur (22nd). After that, Canada made a comeback and leveled the match at 2-2. India won the match by scoring in the 51st minute. In men’s hockey, Team India defeated Canada by 8-0.

Boxer confirmed three medals
World champions Nikhat Zareen, Neetu Ganghas and Husamuddin Mohammed assured India of medals by reaching the semi-finals of the boxing event. Nikhat defeated Helen Jones of Wales 5-0 on the basis of points in the women’s 50kg category. Neetu was declared the winner in the third and final round of the 48kg quarterfinals after her Northern Ireland rival Nicole Clyde voluntarily retired (ABD). In the men’s 57kg, Husamuddin advanced to the last four with a 4-1 win over Namibia’s Tryagen Morning Ndevello to secure a second medal.

Team India in semi-finals in cricket
India beat Barbados by 100 runs in a cricket match. With this win, Team India secured a place in the semi-finals. Playing first, India scored 162 runs. Barbados team could only score 62 runs. In batting for India, Jemima Rodrigues scored a half-century. Renuka Singh got 4 wickets in the bowling.
