Sreeshankar has become the first player to win a medal for India in this competition. At the same time, Sudhir won the gold medal in Para Powerlifting. Sudhir has become the first player to win gold for India in powerlifting.

Boxers rocked

Indian boxers continued their stellar performance in the Commonwealth Games and assured seven medals on Thursday. Sagar Ahlawat, Amit Panghal Jasmine and Rohit Tokas made it to the semi-finals of their respective category for India on the seventh day of the CWG. Sagar, 22, from Haryana registered a 5-0 win over KD Evans Agnes of Seychelles in the quarterfinals of the men’s super heavyweight (+91kg) category. The boxer continued his dream run in his international debut and will now face Nigeria’s Ifini Onykwere in the last four.

Jasmine defeated New Zealand’s Troy Garten in a 4-1 split decision in the women’s lightweight (60kg) quarterfinals. Although it was a tough match, the Indian boxer dominated the first round. But in the second round, Garten made a comeback, which surprised the Indian boxer. A day after Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Neetu Ganghas (48kg) and Mohammad Hussamuddin (57kg) confirmed medals in their respective categories, Panghal, the silver medalist of the previous edition in Gold Coast, won the flyweight (48-51kg) quarters. A unanimous decision victory against Scotland’s Lennon Mulligan in the final.
