In the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, the Indian badminton team continued its stellar performance by defeating Australia in the final Group A match of the mixed team competition. Earlier, India registered impressive 5-0 victories against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In their third match, India defeated Australia 4-1 to top the group.

World Championships silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth got India off to a great start with a 21-14 21-13 win over Australia’s Lin Jiang Ying. The momentum was continued by two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu defeating Chen Wendy Huan-Yu 21-10 21-12 to take India’s lead 2-0.

In the men’s double match, the pair of Sumit and Chirag defeated the pair of Tran Hoang Pham and Jack Yu 21-16 21-19 to ensure a 3-0 victory for India’s lead. India, however, lost the women’s doubles match after taking an unassailable lead.

The Indian pair of Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost 13-21, 19-21 to Losing, Chen Hsua Yu and Groene Somerville. In the mixed doubles match, the pair of B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa defeated Ying Jiang Lin and Groene Somerville 21-14, 21-11 to reduce the Indian win margin to 4-1.
