CWG 2022: 2 Pakistan boxers went missing in Birmingham, went to participate in Commonwealth Games

Pakistan At CWG 2022: Two Pakistani boxers have gone missing in Birmingham since the end of the Commonwealth Games. The national federation gave this information on Wednesday. Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) secretary Nasser Tang confirmed the news that boxers Suleiman Baloch and Nazirullah went missing hours before the team left for Islamabad. The Birmingham Commonwealth Games concluded on Monday.

“The travel documents, including his passport, are still with the federation officials who accompanied the boxing team to the Games,” Tang said. He said the team management has informed the Pakistan High Commission in the UK and the relevant authorities in London about the disappearance of Suleiman and Nazirullah. Tang said the documents of the missing boxers were kept in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all players coming from Pakistan.

The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has constituted a four-member committee to investigate the case of missing boxers. Pakistan could not win any medal in the boxing competition of Commonwealth Games. The country won eight medals in these games, including two golds in weightlifting and javelin throw.

The incident of missing boxers comes two months after national swimmer Faizan Akbar went missing from the FINA World Championships in Hungary. Akbar, however, did not appear to compete in the championship and disappeared with his passport and other documents a few hours after arriving in Budapest. He has not been traced since June.
