Chess Olympiad: SM Dhoni will reach Chess Olympiad, closing ceremony will be held today

Chennai: Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) will be the main attraction of the closing ceremony of the 44th Chess Olympiad. The Chess Olympiad being played in Mamallapuram will conclude on Tuesday with the 11th and final round of games. The Chess Olympiad was organized in India for the first time in which a record number of teams participated in the Open and Women’s categories.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will preside over the closing ceremony. Arkady Dvorkovic, president of FIDE, the apex body of world chess, and recently elected vice-president and former world champion Viswanathan Anand will attend the event. Anand is not participating in this tournament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Olympiad on 28 July at the Nehru Indoor Stadium.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni may not be from Chennai but he has a special attachment to this city. He captains the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Dhoni was bought by Chennai in 2008. Chennai has won the IPL trophy four times under his captaincy. Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, but is still seen playing for Chennai in the IPL.
