Cheating Army Aspirants: A shocking case has come to light from Pune, Maharashtra. Here a man posing as a colonel was extorting lakhs of rupees from the youth to get him recruited in the army. When the case of cheating of lakhs in the name of army recruitment came to the fore, the intelligence wing of Maharashtra Police and Army were also surprised.

Giving information about the case, Pune city police said on Wednesday that a 55-year-old auto rickshaw driver has been arrested for posing as a colonel and duping several candidates in the name of getting a job in the army. The accused auto rickshaw driver Sanjay Sawant was arrested in a joint operation by the Crime Branch of Pune Police and Military Intelligence, a Pune Police official said.

Accused auto rickshaw driver Sanjay Sawant was handed over to Pathankot police in Punjab after arrest and preliminary interrogation. Where a case of fraud has been registered against him and the matter is being heard by the local court. The police officer said that he worked as a laborer at the Central Ordnance Depot (COD) on Dehu Road in Pune for 30 years before becoming an auto rickshaw driver.

The officer said a case was registered in Pathankot where he is accused of duping several youths of lakhs of rupees by posing as an army colonel and promising jobs in the army. A team of Pathankot police went to Pune to arrest him. After a thorough search, officials of the Pune Crime Branch and Unit-4 of Military Intelligence traced and apprehended Sawant, the official said.
