Bajrang Punia: Jio Re Bahubali... Wrestler Bajrang Punia won his second consecutive gold medal in CWG

Birmingham: Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. Tokyo Olympic medalist Bajrang did not face any competition in the 65 kg freestyle category and easily won gold for the country. In the final match, Bajrang faced a challenge from Lachlan McNilla of Canada. By winning this match 9-2, Bajrang won the gold.

This is his second gold and third overall at the Commonwealth Games. In 2018 also he won gold in 65 kg category. In 2014, he won the silver medal in the 61 kg category. He also has two gold medals in the Commonwealth Championship. This is India’s 7th gold and 22nd overall medal in this Commonwealth Games. Before Bajrang in wrestling, Anshu Malik won the silver medal.

In the round of 16 match against Bajrang Punia, Lowe Bingham was in front of him. Bajrang won the match in less than two minutes. After this, Bajrang also got an easy victory against Jean Bandeau of Mauritius. He defeated England’s George Ram 10–0 in the semi-final match to secure a place in the final. Bajrang had been battling injury since the Tokyo Olympics. He was training in America before the Games. In April this year, he got silver at the Asian Championships. He managed to make it to the Commonwealth Games trials in May after struggling hard.
