Asia Cup: Afghanistan’s strong player joins the team for Asia Cup, these 3 will make opponents’ noses

Afghanistan on Tuesday announced their squad for the Asia Cup 2022, in which Samiullah Shinwari’s team has been entered. The team will be led by all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and the current tour of Ireland will see a change in the 16-man squad. Shinwari has replaced Sharafuddin Ashraf, who is now part of the reserve, while spinner Noor Ahmed has also been added to the squad.

The 34-year-old last represented Afghanistan in a T20I against Ireland in March 2020. Along with Ashraf, Kais Ahmed and Nizad Masood are the additional two players. The team also includes other regular players like Rashid Khan, Hazratullah Zazai, Najibullah Zadran and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Chief selector Noor Malikzai said, “The Asia Cup is important to us and as such, we have picked our best available players for the event. Samiullah Shinwari has been added to the squad for the Asia Cup. He is in very good form and will strengthen the batting department which already includes Ibrahim Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi.

Afghanistan are currently on an assignment against Ireland. After losing the first two matches, the guests made a spectacular comeback in the next two games to level the series 2-2. The decider will be played on Wednesday, after which Afghanistan will leave for the UAE. Afghanistan are placed in Group B along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the Asia Cup, from where the top two teams will advance. The Mohammad Nabi-led side will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on August 27.
