Anderson Peters topped the qualification round. He had a throw of 89.91 metres. Both the players are 24 years old and both started their careers together. Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal at the 2016 IAAF World Under-20 Championships. Peters had to settle for bronze in that event. Neeraj and Peters also participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Here too Neeraj got gold while Peters got bronze. At the Olympics, Peters could not even qualify for the final.
Neeraj was not allowed to win gold
Anderson Peters has been beaten by Neeraj Chopra several times, but this year he is in great form. Neeraj and Peters clashed in the Stockholm Diamond League. Neeraj made a national record by throwing 89.94 meters, but Peters threw 90.31 meters and won the gold medal. Neeraj Chopra had to be content with silver. Anderson Peters threw 93.07m in the Doha Diamond League this year. Because of this, he is a big threat to Neeraj.
Neeraj is also behind in the ranking
Neeraj Chopra is currently ranked fourth in the world for men’s javelin throws. At the same time Peters is world number-1. He has already won gold at the World Athletics Championships. In 2019, he won gold with a throw of 86.89m and will take to the field as the defending champion. Neeraj is the Olympic champion but if he wants to become the world champion, then Anderson Peters will have to find a break.
