Birmingham: India has got the third gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. This medal has also come in weightlifting. Achinta Sheuli of 20 won gold in the 73 kg category. Anchita lifted 143 kg in snatch. This is a Commonwealth Games record. He lifted 166 kg in his first attempt of clean and jerk. After failing in the second attempt, he lifted 170 kg in the third. Achinta Shuli created a Commonwealth Games record by lifting a total of 313 kg.

Lifted 10 kg more weight than silver medalist
Eri Hidayat of Malaysia won the silver medal. He lifted a total of 303 kilograms. Canada had to be content with the bronze medal. Even before the start of the match, Achinta Shuli was considered a strong contender for victory. He won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Championship in 2021. In 2021 itself, he won a silver medal in the Junior World Championship.

India’s sixth medal
This is India’s sixth medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The country has got all the medals in weightlifting only. Before Achinta Shuli, Mirabai Chanu and Jeremy Lalrinnunga also won gold medals for India in weightlifting. Sanket Mahadev Sargar and Bindiya Devi Rani won the silver medal. Gururaj Pujari got the bronze. India has three gold, two silver and one bronze medals. India is also the country that won the most medals in weightlifting in the Commonwealth Games 2022. There have been 7 events so far and India did not get a medal in only one of them.
