Five limbs of Panchang Tithi

According to the Hindu calendar, the time it takes for the Moon line to move 12 degrees above the Sun line is called Tithi. There are thirty Tithis in a month and these Tithis are divided into two Pakshas. The last date of Shukla Paksha is called Poornima and the last date of Krishna Paksha is called Amavasya. Name of the date – Pratipada, Dwitiya, Tritiya, Chaturthi, Panchami, Shashthi, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Trayodashi, Chaturdashi, Amavasya/Purnima.

Star: A constellation of stars in the sky is called a constellation. There are 27 constellations in it and nine planets are owned by these constellations. Name of 27 Nakshatras- Ashwin Nakshatra, Bharani Nakshatra, Krittika Nakshatra, Rohini Nakshatra, Mrigashira Nakshatra, Ardra Nakshatra, Punarvasu Nakshatra, Pushya Nakshatra, Ashlesha Nakshatra, Magha Nakshatra, Poorva Phalguni Nakshatra, Uttaraphalguni Nakshatra, Hasta Nakshatra, Chitra Nakshatra, Swati Nakshatra, Vishakha Nakshatra, Anuradha Nakshatra, Jyestha Nakshatra, Mool Nakshatra, Poorvashadha Nakshatra, Uttarashada Nakshatra, Shravan Nakshatra, Gherita Nakshatra, Shatabhisha Nakshatra, Poorvabhadrapada Nakshatra, Uttarabhadrapada Nakshatra, Revati Nakshatra.

War: Var means day. There are seven wars in a week. These seven planets are named after the planets – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Total: Like nakshatras, there are 27 types of yogas. Positions of particular distances of Sun and Moon are called Yoga. The names of the 27 yogas formed on the basis of distances – Vishkumbh, Preeti, Ayushman, Saubhagya, Shobhan, Atigund, Sukarma, Dhriti, Shool, Gand, Vriddhi, Dhruva, Vighat, Harshana, Vajra, Siddhi, Vyatipat, Variyan, Parigha, Shiva Siddha, Sadhya, Auspicious, Shukla, Brahma, Indra and Vaidhriti.

Karan: There are two Karanas in a Tithi. One in the first half of the date and one in the latter part of the date. There are 11 such Karanas whose names are as follows – Bava, Balav, Kaulava, Taitil, Gar, Vanij, Vishti, Shakuni, Chatushpada, Nag and Kistughna. Vishti Karan is called Bhadra and auspicious work is considered forbidden in Bhadra.
