T20 World cup: Sachin Tendulkar’s prediction, this player will fulfill the lack of Jasprit Bumrah

New Delhi: Former India legend Sachin Tendulkar feels Jasprit Bumrah’s absence is a big setback for India in the T20 World Cup but Mohammed Shami can make up for his lack with his pace and skill. Bumrah has been out of cricket indefinitely due to back pain. He was replaced by Shami, who hasn’t played a T20 International since the last World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The 32-year-old Amroha bowler, however, handled the ball in the 20th over in the warm-up match against Australia on Monday and took three wickets to help India win by six runs. Tendulkar said, “Bumrah’s absence is a big loss because we definitely need a strike bowler. A genuine fast bowler who can dominate the batsmen and take wickets. Shami has proved it and he seems like an ideal choice.

Impressed by Arshdeep

The veteran batsman seems to be heavily influenced by young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh who has done well in international cricket so far. Tendulkar said, ‘Arshdeep has raised a lot of expectations and he seems to be a balanced bowler. Whatever I saw in him I felt committed player because when you look at a player you see his mentality.

The veteran batsman said that being committed to a particular strategy is as important as preparing it. “What I like best is that if Arshdeep has a strategy, he sticks to it and that is very important in this format as the batsmen tend to be loose and play some new shots,” Tendulkar said. So if you have any strategy then follow it completely.

India have to play their matches in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth where the boundary line is very large. Tendulkar feels the size of the field should be kept in mind while selecting spinners in the playing XI. He said, ‘You mostly play in the direction where the ball is turning, there are some batsmen who hit continuously against the turn. Usually the captain decides what kind of spinner to keep in the playing XI by looking at the distance of the boundary line. You also keep in mind the wind direction while selecting the spinner.

Left handed players will be a game changer

In India’s first match against Pakistan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik may find a place in the playing XI, so only left-handed batsman Rishabh Pant may have to sit out. Tendulkar does not want to talk about the team composition but believes that having a left-handed batsman gives variety to the batting order.

“The left-handed batsman is definitely important. The bowlers and the fielders have to adjust themselves accordingly and if they rotate the strike continuously then the bowlers have trouble with it.

Tendulkar also said that conditions and the role of the toss will also be important. He said, ‘I think on some occasions conditions will also play a role and defending the score will not be easy. Circumstances can change during the course of the match and chasing the target can be easy. The role of the toss will also be important on some grounds.
