Lawn Bowls Gold Medal: Women’s team created history in lawn balls, won gold medal for the first time

The Indian women’s lawn balls team won the gold medal by defeating South Africa 17-10 in the title match of the women’s force (team of four players) event of the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday. This is India’s first gold in this event and Indian women won the fourth gold by waving the flag in this unknown game. They defeated New Zealand 16-13 in the semi-finals.

The Indian team reached the final of the women’s force format for the first time in the Commonwealth Games. The Indian Women’s Force team of Lovely Choubey (Lead), Pinky (Second), Nayanmoni Sekia (Third) and Roopa Rani Tirkey (Skip) put up a historic performance. After reaching the title match, an emotional Roopa Rani had said, ‘We just cannot express our feeling in words. We took the challenge as a team and our journey will not end here.

He had said, ‘We have to play the same game against South Africa and do what we have never done before.’ Dhoni, on the other hand, makes an occasional visit to the field during practice in Ranchi and Lovely says he knows a lot about lawnball. He said, ‘Dhoni sir knows our coach in Ranchi and has also come on the field twice. When he goes to the temple of Devi Mata, he also comes to our ground. He said that when he goes to Australia, he plays lawn ball.
