Indian women’s weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in 49 kg on the second day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Chanu had left his rivals far behind by performing brilliantly in the round in the snatch. After successfully lifting 84 kg in the first attempt of snatch, Chanu lifted 88 kg in the second attempt. This is also the record in women’s weightlifting in Commonwealth Games, no weightlifter has lifted the weight of 88 kg. On the other hand, Chanu’s third attempt was of 90 kg but could not succeed in it. On the other hand, Chanu surprised everyone by lifting a weight of 109 kg in the first attempt of clean and jerk. At the same time, in the second attempt, she lifted the weight of 113 kg, while in the third attempt she failed to lift 115 kg. Chanu has won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games for the second time in a row. Earlier, he had won a medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
This is the third medal for India in weightlifting today. Earlier, Sankej Mahadev had won the silver medal in the 55 kg weight category. At the same time, in the category of 61 kg, Gururaja Pujari has given India a bronze medal. Mirabai Chanu had earlier won a silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. At the same time, Mirabai won the Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast. The 27-year-old Mirabai won a silver medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics last year.
Mirabai Chanu had also landed for India in the Rio Olympics but here she did not do anything special. However, after that she continued to improve her game, which resulted in her gold medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Chanu comes from a very poor family
Mirabai Chanu’s early years were spent in poverty. She used to choose wood in the forests for the house. Chanu has been lifting weights since the age of 12 and due to this skill, she is waving the flag of the country at the world level.
When Mirabai Chanu used to go to the forest to collect wood, she used to easily pick up girls weighing more than her siblings. She used to collect this wood from the forest for firewood, but this practice from her childhood finally worked for her and she became the country’s top weightlifter.
