Edinburgh: New Zealand opener Martin Guptill became the highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals, surpassing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma during the first match against Scotland here. Thirty-five-year-old Guptill scored 40 runs in 31 balls and during this time set a new record by surpassing Rohit Sharma.
In reply, Scotland’s team could only manage 157 runs for eight wickets. For New Zealand, Ish Sodhi took four for 28 and Michael Santner took two wickets for 23 runs.
During his innings, Guptill reached 3399 runs in T20 International cricket and surpassed Rohit Sharma’s 3389 runs. They are followed by former India captain Virat Kohli (3308 runs), Ireland’s ODI captain Paul Stirling (2894 runs) and Australia captain Aaron Finch (2855 runs). Kohli became the first batsman to score 3000 runs in T20 Internationals in 2021.
